After 11 no-hit innings, Dodgers win it in 12th at Mount Horeb

Shades of Harvey Haddix.
On May 26, 1959 the lefthanded pitcher for the Pittsburg Pirates pitched 12 perfect innings against the Milwaukee Braves only to lose the game in the 13th.
On May 29, 2021 junior Lucy Dahlk threw 11 innings of no-hit softball against the Dodgeville Dodgers only to lose the game 2-0 in the 12 when her opponents bunched their only three hits of the game.
For the most part the batters for both teams were spending their afternoon walking back to the bench after striking out. Dahlk accounted for 19 of the punchouts while Dodgeville hurler Annika Lord sent back 14. Lord surrendered eight hits but kept the Vikings away from home plate the entire game.
Lucy Heimerl was the first Dodger to get into the hit column with a single in the 12th the Grace Graber reached on an error. Graber made it to second for two runners in scoring position bringing Daniā€ˆMikrut to the plate. Mikrut dropped down a bunt but when the fielder checked the runners she was already at first base.
That set the stage for senior third baseman Audrey White to prove she was once again up to the challenge as she slipped a grounder up the middle to plate Heimerl and Graber for a 2-0 lead.
Lord did the rest by retiring the side without a run in the bottom of the 12th.
It was White's second clutch performance as her home run recently against Mineral Point made the difference in the game.
Dodger coach Gene Van Dyck said about the game, "An absolutely nail biting game. As good as it gets. Neither team deserved to lose. But in the end, we prevailed. Both pitchers threw great ball with both going all 12 innings. The Mount Horeb pitcher really dominated us for the first 10 innings, but Annika Lord and our defense matched her. Mount Horeb's pitcher started to tire in the 11th. and 12th. innings while Annika seemed to stay strong. It doesn't show in lack of speed but in the ability to locate pitches. So in the 11th, we started to get on her and in the 12th., we were able to put together enough hits to put us into a position to win the game. Audrey came thru with a 2 rbi hit to put us ahead. Annika then finished the job, as with a runner on base and their #4 hitter at the plate, she struck her out with her 193rd pitch of the game to secure the victory. When our defense made a mistake Annika would come thru with a big strike out and when Annika got us in some trouble, the defense made a great play to get us out of trouble. Our catcher Sara Graber threw out a would-be base stealer. Lucy Heimerl took a short hopper off the fence in left field and threw out the hitter at second on what could have been a double. JoJo Heimerl corralled a bad hop grounder up the middle and Audrey White threw out a runner at first from the seat of her pants. And Carley Wolf made a real nice back hand scoop on the short hop.
Just a great all round team victory." .
