Rembering the clothesline

Dear Editor;
I would like to tell you how very much I enjoyed Eileen Fitzsimons' remembering her mom's clothesline. That's the best item I've read in the Opinion Page in a long time. She put a smile on my face!
She's right, everything got hung up in orderly fashion, even in sub-zero weather. Back in the day, I had 3 little ones in diapers, all hanging outside. We didn't have a dryer for a number of years., so ones best hope was for a nice breeze to fluff things up. Remember the day of stiff blue jeans, making them hard to ger into??! No fabric softner back then!
Several years ago, my friend Ruby Griffiths and I were reminiscing about hanging shorts out when it was below zero and trying to get them back in the house before the door shut on your behind! We got a good laugh at some of the things we had to do. Young people have no idea of what they're missing. And, oh, that wonderful smell of fresh clothes coming in from outside!
I still don't have a dryer. I still hang my clothes out, but my fingers don't do the cold anymore, so I have 3 racks to put them on in the winter. By the way, I still have my original poles to prop up my 2 lines of clothes! Wherever I moved, they went with me - 61 years old, full of little holes from woodpeckers, still strong.
Thanks Eileen! That was just great.
Sincerely
Marilyn Simons
