Mineral Point wrestling travelled to Prairie du Chien to take on the Blackhawks on Thursday December 31.
In what has been a difficult year for the wrestlers, due to having their season on hold for a couple weeks, they were able to close out 2020 by defeating Prairie du Chien with a final score of 40-21.
To start the night off, Mineral Point's 160 pounder Bo Hanson faced off with Cole Halverson. Hanson was able to add three points to the MP scoreboard by a decision of 6-4. The Pointers kept solid momentum going with four consecutive pins by Nolan Springer (170), Mason Hughes (182), Mitch Aurit (195), and Daniel Nordstrom (220), bringing the team's score up to 27-0.
Pointer heavyweight Will Straka solidified another win for the Pointers in his three-point decision match against Jayden Johnson, bringing the team up 30-0
When Mineral Point lightweight Joey Robinson came up short in his match against Mason Baumgartner, Lucas Sullivan (113) helped the team bring some stride back in his major decision match against Ryder Koenig. PDC's Rhett Koenig however was able to respond with a major decision win against 120 pounder Carson Kroll.
Trapper Nafzger (126) and Tarrin Riley (132) were able to add three points per match in their decision matches against Drew Hird and Maddox Cejka respectively, bringing the Pointer's score up to 40-10.
Things got tricky after Ross Lindsey (138), Hayden Bakken (145), and Kane Gunderson were defeated in their matches, with Gunderson being defeated in a tech fall match.
Despite the trickiness at the end, the Pointers added another W in the scorebook.
The Pointers will host Lodi Thursday January 7, with the first match kicking off at 6 p.m.
