This is the time of the year (1st few days) that I clean out the "old" Chronicle, Democrat and Leader newspapers to make room for the "new" ones, meaning 2021! That means a lot of shuffling around of papers as we keep a few of the last 3-4 years of the Chronicles and a year of the other two papers here. Boy did my hands get dirty from ink doing that job!

New Year's Eve is supposed to mean evening parties for groups. In this pandemic state of living we are in, I surely didn't feel like celebrating. In fact I was in bed by 8:30 that night. I guess it was midnight New Year's Eve somewhere at that time! Maybe I was just getting set for 2020 to be over and 2021 to begin!

Bob, Terry and I made the trip to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Resort again Saturday for breakfast. They are closed now until around March 19 as the resort closes for that period of time. In talking with Drew and Dawn, they are hoping to take some type of vacation, but they will also be working around the restaurant to be ready to open again. Dawn was the Chamber of Commerce director at Spring Green several years ago and I knew her from that time too!

There sure was a lot of fog over the weekend. That made for some pretty ice on trees and fences. The weather is supposed to stay pretty mild this week too!

We lost a good friend and lunch partner Dan Roble at the end of the year. He was a great mentor, band and orchestra instructor at Dodgeville for may years. He loved his desserts. He would always say the doctor told me to eat more fruit - so he would order cherry, apple, peach or any fruit pie he could! He also liked strawberries on his ice cream or cake!

So far the winter sports season hasn't had too many cancellations due to COVID. Some of the schools are just beginning to get into playing though while others have had several games/matches/meets in! It's good to see the kids participate and interact even if they have to wear facial coverings while competing. It's tough to keep the facial covering in place while going up for a shot, tumbling on the mat or having a head throw done to you! A good photo of facial covering staying on while playing basketball can be seen above!

The Wisconsin Badgers haven't been quite as lucky being able to play all their contests. Pretty much every sport has had a wrinkle in its schedules due to contests being cancelled.

We received a note from longtime friend Charlotte Pengilly as she renewed her Chronicle again from her residence in Illinois. We knew her growing up on the Pengilly farm whose barn later became the Don Q Inn! She told of the "crazy" postal service as she received only one July newspaper in July and then received three July issues at the same time in September! She said things improved greatly after she contacted her Congressional Representative - Mike Quigley.
