Four Iowa-Grant/Highland wrestlers place at state wrestling

Iowa-Grant/Highland wrestlers came away from their Division 3 State individual Championships at Wausau East with a second, a third, a fourth and a six placing.
Their second came from 182 lb. Cal Dorota while 106 lb. Elliott Biba finished third. Mason Welsh finished fourth at 120 while Colton Cutts took sxth at 152. All are juniors except for Biba who is a freshman.
"It was a good year considering all the covid craziness. I am super proud of all the boys on the team this year. We worked hard, made improvements, and became one tough team," were Iowa-Grant/Highland coach Ryan Allen's summmary of the season.
He talked about his individuals and their state appearances.
"Elliot Biba placing 3rd as a freshman is a heck of an accomplishment. Elliot is a very talented young man who had a great season and he will be tough to beat next year.
"Mason Welsh wrestled well in getting 4th. He lost a very close match for 3rd place but I think it will keep him motivated for next year. He is a hard working kid who will have high goals for next year. He had a great season this year and we will need his leadership on next year's team.
"Colton Cutts placed 6th after losing a heartbreaker for 5th. If there were five more seconds in the 1st period we would have had a pin but that's how it goes sometimes. Colton is a tough kid who has shown his toughness all season battling through few injuries. To place at state is a testimate to his desire to win and determination to wrestle.
"Cal Dorota had two nice wins early but unfortunately lost in the finals. I think mentally we were just not in the right place on Saturday. Cal didn't wrestle his best match and just didn't get offensive until it was too late. Hopefully being a junior, Cal can learn from this and get another shot at a title next year. "
Allen praised the state tournament this year saying, "Overall I thought Wausau East did a great job hosting and I'm very grateful that our wrestlers got to have a chance to wrestle at state this year. I am very excited to see how our leaders handle workouts this summer and into next season.
