Mineral Point girls stay unbeaten in SWAL with win over Cuba City

What was thought to be a chance for a classic match-up turned out to be a lopsided win which helped solidify Mineral Point's girls basketball team's hold on the SWAL's first place.
Playing a very strong schedule has meant a few losses for the Pointers but they have been able to stay unbeaten in conference play. Thursday the Pointers raced to a 32-18 first half lead and went on to put the clamps on second place Cuba City by 20 points, 59-39. The last time the two teams played the Pointers outlasted the Cubans for a two point win.
One of the keys to the win was holding D1 recruit Bailey Lutes to four points. The pressure was on for someone else to step up to score and the Cubans got two in double figures, Maddison Carl with 11 and Grace Cummins with 10.
The Pointers had the hot hand from three point range where they put in 10. Ella Chambers tallied three, Ivy Lawinger, Mallory Lindsey and Emily Cody two and Macy Aschliman one.
The Pointers had six three pointers the first half and added four the second 18 minutes.
Blair Watters led the Pointers with 16 points and Kennedy Wenger added 11.
