Golden Eagles overwhelmed in opener

By Levi Zimmerman
The Barneveld girls basketball team couldn't hang with Belleville in the first game of the season for the Golden Eagles.
The Wildcats, led by Kenna Edge, outscored Barneveld 48-18 in the first half and cruised to a 77-33 win at home to move to 3-0.
Edge poured in 25 points in the first 18 minutes that included seven three-point field goals.
She led everyone in scoring with 28.
Callie Smith added 11 points followed by Ava Foley who scored 10.
For Barneveld, junior Shelbi Marx led in scoring with 10 points, while senior Emma Gordon had five points.
Barneveld head coach Chris Thousand said that it was a combination of things that contributed to the large deficit.
"They made 13 three-pointers, and we really struggled with their size and keeping them off of the offensive rebounds," said Thousand.
The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back with a win when they host the Belmont Braves Tuesday, Nov. 30 in a crossover game between the East and West divisions of the Six Rivers conference.
