Hot shooting Vikings too much for Panthers
On the other end of the court they excelled as well, holding Iowa-Grant to 32 for the night.
The Vikings poured in eight three pointers, three by Anna Tisch, two from Niveah Gross and one by Mikaela Gross. Lexi Peterson had a strong inside game with 18 while Green added 16.
AJ Jelle put in 11 for the Panthers and had a pair of threes. Ashley Runde had eight points with two baskets from three point range.
"We were balanced tonight in scoring which always means a good night for us," said coach Linda Hendrickson. "The girls played aggressive and controlled the boards in the first half."
It took awhile for the two teams to get rolling the second half but the Vikings were able to cruise to the win.
"We started the second half a little slow but we picked up our intensity about five minutes in the second half," added Hendrickson. "Without a JV season it was nice to give them minutes and build their confidence. They will be a key factor in our success this year."
"For the first game of the season I thought we played well," added Hendrickson. "There are always things to work on but overall I am pleased with our effort on both ends of the court."
"We now have a baseline of where we are," said I-G coach Melissa Martinez."We put in 32 points out of the gate and that was hard to do last season. Also we had a much better defensive second half."
"Pec shot well and hit the offensive boards hard," Martinez added.
