Along The Ad Routes

Small Business Saturday kicks off the holiday shopping season traditionally. It falls on this coming Saturday (November 27) this year. There will be events going on in Dodgeville and a lot of the places close by that day. The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a FREE movie at the Dodge Theater "Mr. Magoriam's Wonder Emporium" that day at 11:00 a.m. in English - a Spanish version will be shown at 9:00 a.m. too! We ask a non-perishable food item to be donated for entry though! Santa will be at the theater for a stop and then be at Cobblestone Coffee House (just down the street) from 1-3 for photos with the kids! There will be a Holiday Parade through downtown Dodgeville at 4:00 p.m. (line-up at 3:30). Also there will be a Memorial Lights reading following the parade. Other events include a Cookie Walk benefitting Dodgeville Food Locker at the Methodist Church, a Craft and Vendor Sale at the high school and live window displays, caroling and carriage rides beginning at 1:00 p.m.

I've got more to say about son Michael and our trip to see the Packers in Green Bay the Sunday before last. Michael wanted to stop at the Titletown Brewing Company. He tends bar at a brewery in Muscatine, Iowa a few nights a week and they serve some of the beer that Titletown makes. After we arrived in Green Bay, we headed right there. I had called good friend Kramer "Butch" Rock (class of 1965) on our way in and he said he was 15 minutes away and would meet us there. We waited for him inside
(it was kinda cool outside) and then we went to the bar area. Michael had a good talk with the bartender. He had a craft beer and bought some shorty six packs of some varieties to take home - also he bought a cap and some glasses for his collection. Butch was happy to meet Michael and talk with him too. He knew a lot about Michael due to my writing about him. The place was pretty nice and a good hangout for people heading to the game.

Wednesday I had to deliver newspapers to Mineral Point for the second time this year. It was good to see some of the familiar faces when I used to spend more time there. Sarah, at Ivey's Pharmacy, made a special trip up to the front to thank me for dropping off the papers. JoAnn at Point Foods said I hadn't changed a bit! At the post office the woman there asked right off the bat "Where's breakfast this Saturday?"

Thursday, at lunch at Dino's in Dodgeville, the conversation came up about Christmass trees. I made the comment that I hadn't put up a tree in 40 years. Then I added, I hadn't taken one down for 39!

Great-nephew Quentin Keene and the Waunakee football team won the Division 2 State Football Championship Friday over Homestead 33-21. Quentin (Kelly is Pat's daughter) threw two touchdown passes. Pat, Levi Zimmerman and I sat in the warm press box at Camp Randall Stadium, home of the UW Badgers in Madison. Then we went to Waunakee for the "Welcome Back Celebration.". The above photo (from the press box) shows Quentin throwing a pass at state.

Saturday morning breakfast took us to Husie's Bar and Grill in Blanchardville (#49). We were alone in the dining area when we arrived, but several tables came in as we were eating. Waitress Shirley was a "hoot" and we all tried something different - corned beef hash, biscuits & gravy, french toast and an omelette. We came back to Dodgeville via Yellowstone State Park, through Fayette and then to Mineral Point.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day!
