Dear Editor,
I recently saw that after a Dodgeville Council meeting, the council moved to go to closed session to discuss city owned property and a developer's proposal. As I mentioned weeks ago, as a resident and taxpayer, City property is MY property. I want to know what you're considering for MY property.
Years ago there was an outcry about the number of closed sessions and back room dealings. I thought the final policy was that closed door sessions would only occur if there was an ongoing criminal legal issue or an unresolved personnel issue. As the subject is city owned property, I can rule out the latter. If the council has to handle these shady deals (i.e. why are we buying certain properties from individuals with no purpose) maybe it's time to ask the state to step in and evaluate these deals.
I found it interesting that after the city turned the former Dodgeville Truckstop into a trash heap that the analysts at Kwik trip felt the area, and specifically a Route 18 location, were perfect for expansion to the point of buying more property and developing a larger facility that will support truck business.
Next week, more on why we have a business development person on the county payroll with a SALARY (instead of a commission) who has not developed any businesses (again, there may be some new business that I've missed but I seldom go through Platteville anymore and can instantly see what business development looks like).
It's time for answers about MY property and YOUR property and NO MORE CLOSED sessions.
