Maybe it should be

Dear Editor;
Merriam-webster definition of honor system: a system whereby persons are trusted to abide by the regulations without supervision or surveillance.
I find it "refreshing" to pass a farm stand with no one in attendance. They simply list what's being offered and the price.
For example: a baker's dozen ears of corn for $5. (Ask your child/ren if they know the meaning of "baker's dozen.") The cash box is right there and in some cases, unlocked in case you don't have the correct change.
And the other day, I saw a sign on the corner lot (next to Dodgeville's Culvers*) which is actually a miniature corn field. It read "Free sweet corn. Pick your own. Bags available. Donations to the Iowa County Food Pantry." So I stopped and picked 4 ears for lunch - good flavor. What a great opportunity for you and your family to harvest fresh sweet corn!
Both of the above are run on the honor system. I checked to see if that system was a concept expressed in the "You Know You Are A True Wisconsinite When" list but it is not. Maybe it should be.
*I give directions using landmarks.
