Buyer beware

Dear Editor;
"Buyer beware" is a phrase we used to hear often.
Does it still apply?
Recently I was in a "relatively local" grocery store and happened to be going down the dairy aisle. Items were being stocked "from the front."
I have no idea how workers are trained in that particular setting but I observed the (middle aged) employee just pushing back the dairy items to make room for "the new."
The best practice is "first in, first out." I especially believe that to be important when purchasing dairy and meat.
So I guess "buyer beware" still applies. It's easy to check the date on the package. Or if your child(ren) can read numbers and letters, hand them the item and let them be your "secret shopper."
