Debates can wait

Dear Editor:
'UNLESS WE DO THIS TOGETHER, WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET THIS UNDER CONTROL' warns Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases. As the coronavirus continues its deadly march into rural areas of the Midwest, it is important for each of us to choose between the advice of a distinguished expert and the ineffective leadership of President Trump. (The US constitutes 4% of the world's population but suffers 25% of coronavirus cases.)
We know what to do to avoid a looming medical disaster. But a misguided minority refuses to do it, thereby imperiling an entire community. Vigorous local leadership could be a huge help. We desperately need our representative, Assemblyman Todd Novak, to advocate these precautions:
-Wear a mask as mandated.
-Keep our distance.
-Meet outside whenever possible.
-Avoid crowds, particularly indoors.
-Wash our hands! (Of course!)
But Novak is bound to support the GOP Assembly Speaker, Robin Vos, who in turn is blindly committed to our less-than-competent President, Donald Trump.
This should not be a partisan issue but, alas, it has become one. I do not see how anyone can deny that the Wisconsin GOP is currently complicit in the deaths and agonizing illnesses of many citizens of this state. I, for one, will be voting this November for Kriss Marion, Novak's impressive, centrist opponent. Anyone who cares about the wellbeing of our community should surely do the same. Debates on political philosophies can wait until we have conquered this vile pandemic.
Yours Sincerely,
David Frank
