Another healthy fundraiser has bit the dust due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Dodgeville Lions Club has cancelled its "Fun Night" for 2020. It was originally scheduled for April, but then was postponed to a later date. Now it is cancelled for this year. With the two Antique Show & Flea Markets and now the Fun Night, those three events being cancelled that leaves a gaping hole in their fundraisers that give them a lot of money they put back into local and area projects and needs. They plan to have bigger and better events in 2021! See above photo of their last one last year.

The Lions Club is planning to hold their annual Birthday/Anniversary Calendar Sale again this year as probably their only fundraiser. Look for more information in the next week or so. Buy purchasing a calendar you are helping them support DHS graduating seniors with $5000 worth of scholarships plus helping to fund any project/donation they may be doing in support of the area.

Saturday morning breakfast took Bob, Terry and myself to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Resort Golf Course. I have said many times this is one of our favorite places. The Apple Oat French Toast is especially good, but only order a half order! The tables are very social distanced and the staff serves you with facial coverings on all the time!

Don't forget - the Dodgeville  Chamber of Commerce is holding a Men's Slowpitch Softball Tournament this coming Saturday at Harris Park on Dodgeville's northeast side. It was originally scheduled for the 28th thru 30th, but with eight teams taking part, it was figured it could be held in one day - cutting down on expenses and volunteers. Games begin at 9:00 a.m. with the final one scheduled for 8:45 p.m. (if need be another following). They will be making their money on the concession stand that will be selling hot food, pop, gatorade, candy, chips and adult beverages. They have some pretty healthy payouts for the top three placings!  Without being able to hold the Grilled Cheese Championships in April and DodgeFest in August, the chamber needs a fundraiser (or two) badly to help supplement the dues that goes to pay expenses and payroll! Hopefully the community (and area) rises to help this event out and spend some time there on Saturday supporting the concession stand! Contact Beth @ 608-935-9200 for more information or to volunteer.

The Iowa County Fair is a go over Labor Day weekend with the youth being featured this year as they showcase their animals. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help offset expenses. There will not be a Midway or a lot of the vendors or events on Labor Day either. There will be animal showing and auction. Support the youth by attending the auction and buying an animal! The fair is later this year as is Labor Day (Monday, September 7).

Speaking of Labor Day, the Village of Ridgeway will be holding a drive-thru/pick-up Chicken BBQ and fireworks that day. Also, the Village of Highland will be holding an all-day fun day at their park with ball games, volleyball, bean bags and other fun activities plus a chicken BBQ. Look for more information down the road.

I spent "boogles" of money at my late buddy's place - the Not-So Quality Bakery - Friday and Saturday and what do I get from owner Brian as he leaves work Saturday? Why the "Mikey Famous One Fingered Salute"!
