Next stop for MP volleyball is WIAA Sectionals

Mineral Point spent the first set at Darlington playing from behind but then the switch was flipped.
After losing the opening set 25-17 the Pointers rolled the next three, winning sets two and three 25-16 and 25-21 before easing to a 25-13 finish. The win sends the Pointers to the Sectionals which will take place with two sets tonight and the finals Saturday.
The Pointers forced the Redbirds into some early time outs with a 10-2 lead at the start. They increased that to 17-3, 19-5, 20-9 then eased to the 25-13 finish.
Over the four sets the Pointers served 11 aces with Kennedy Kabat putting down five along with three each from Ivy Lawinger and Ella Chambers.
Kennedy Wenger and Blair Watters put down 15 and 13 kills with Kabat adding eight.
Digs leaders for the Pointers were Ella Chambers with eight and Regan Suddeth six.
Assists came from two busy setters as Ivy Lawinger had 31 and Mallory Lindsey 36.
Kabat led the Pointers in blocks with six and Watters added three.
"This was a great win for us," said coach Tom Ingwell. "We knew we could beat them, but had to get rolling offensively. We minimized our errors and that made a huge difference. We are excited for the opportunity to keep playing."
To get to the Regional championship the Pointers had to get past a good River Ridge team Thursday.
Mission accomplished as the Pointers beat the Timberwolves three sets to one. Scores were 25-23, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-12.
The good news for the Pointers came Sunday when the WIAA announced they would be the number one seed and host Cochrane-Fountain City Thursday.
The other half of the bracket has number three Mondovi at number two Osseo-Fairchild.
Finals will be Saturday.
