Wouldn't it be nice

Dear Editor;
On my daily walk up Shake Rag Street, when I got to the tennis courts, I noticed my High School football coach, Ron Murphy, was about 100 yards ahead of me. My competitive nature kicked in (pun intended) and I thought to myself; "I'm going to walk faster and close the gap." After coach turned around at Johnston's Pottery, I met him and told him of my attempt to close the gap....and that in fact, HE had lengthened the gap. I told him that I was surprised for 2 reasons; first, he was older me, and second, he was just a "lineman" and I was a "skilled" position (a deceptively quick, and modest, split end). Coach gave his tradmark ear to ear smile and hearty laugh (certainly, accepting only half my observations). One of many reasons he is an all time favorite coach. Then I thought "wouldn't it be nice to run into my baseball mentors, coach Bob Terrill, and coach Herman Oellerich"...but that could only happen in a special corn field in Iowa.....
