Nick Connolly top runner at SWAL meet, boys 2nd, girls 5th


Iowa-Grant senior runner Nick Connolly was the top individual at the SWAL conference meet Tuesday and led the Panthers to a second place finish.
Connolly traveled the course in 16:23.1 to earn top honors. He finished ahead of sophomore teammate Mason Aide who ran the course in 17:10.9.
Boscobel took the team championship with 52 points to Iowa-Grant's 68. Darlington was third wit 74 points, Southwestern/Cuba City fourth with 98, Albany fifth at 123, Fennimore 6th at 139 and Riverdale 7th at 153.
Sophomore Owen Laufenberg was 18th with 18:44.7. Classmate Caden Pennekamp was right behind him in 19th with a time of 19:01.1.
Other finishers for the Panthers were senior Nic Pennekamp at 19:25.6 for 26th, freshman Felix Bartolo-Garcia at 20:18.3 for 27th and senior Lucas Oyen at 19:40.8 for 30th.
Standings for the girls portion of the meet were Fennimore 49, Darlington 53, Albany 78, SW/CC/Benton 103, Iowa-Grant 118 and Riverdale 127.
Sophomore Hope Connolly was the top finisher for the girls at 8th with a time of 21:05.0. Junior Ella Wolff as 25th with a time of 23:51.8. Freshman Meagan Cullen finished 26th at 23:56.2. Senior Brie Straka was 28th with a time of 24:40.5. The fifth Panther runner was Evie Whitaker, a sophomore, with a time of 24:51/9/
Senior Brena Straka finished 32nd at 25:39.4 and sophomore Leslie Bartolo-Rivera was 34th with a time of 26:23.0.
