Dodgers sweep Blackhawks with strong play


Dodgeville's girls volleyball team has put together six straight wins since losing their season. opener to Richland Center and stand at 6-1 after beating River Valley Monday in a sweep.
The Dodgers turned back the pesky Blackhawks 25-15, 25-17 and won a back and forth finale 25-23. The third set saw the lead change hands seven times until the Dodgers won out after taking a 25-23 lead.
"We played scrappy defense and were big at the net," said Dodgeville coach Nicole Hottmann. "We served very well and were able to get it done in three."
Anna Ruhland was particulary a force at the net with 5 block kills.
JoJo Heimerl had 11 attack kills with Olivia Argall adding eight and Ruhland six.
Sophomore Lucy Heimerl led with 12 digs. Argall with 4 aces and 19 assists led those departments.
Kill leaders for the Blackhawks were Anabelle Willoughby with seven and Brooke Anderson with four.
Kate Hanson had a pair of aces.
Willoughby and Morgan Brickl each had a block.
Anderson was the digs and assists leader with 16 of each.
