We received a note from former Dodgeville resident Bob Speaker from his Boynton Beach, Florida home. Bob was also a Dodgeville City Council member in his days here and was very much an advocate in promoting Dodgeville and its history. He wrote: "Hi Pat and Mike: Time for another renewal of the Chronicle. This has been one crazy year. The pandemic has certainly turned the people into THE GOOD (those frontline workers and first responders plus those that wear their masks and social distance), THE BAD (those who believe they have the right NOT to wear masks and not keep their distance) and THE UGLY (those who loot and riot in the name of social injustice).
With 91 years under my belt, there are fewer and fewer people in the Dodgeville news that I knew when I lived there for 32 years. But still enjoy learning what is going on there. Due to the virus, I missed my first summer trip back since leaving in 2008. But I see your colder weather coming, I appreciate the nice warm temps here in Florida.

Saturday breakfast took Bob, Terry and myself to Hollandale to Stroz Inn. We always like to see Jen, who is the owner and namesake for the place (Strozinsky.) I ran into her at Corner Drug Store on Wednesday and pre-warned her that she may just see us on Saturday. We met up with Dave Whitford while we were there. There's almost always at least one Whitford there for breakfast or coffee. We each had an omelette. I guess that must be our favorite breakfast dish there!

Fall Ball ended last Sunday and just in time as the temperatures are dropping this weekend into the 40's! We had a good season other than some of the teams having to drop because of COVID - but the kids enjoyed it and had fun. That was the goal - besides learning more of the skills of playing baseball. Check out the above photo.

I'm not sure what "Trick or Treating" will be around the area this Halloween, but the Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce is planning to hold their "Trunk of Treat" again this year beginning and ending in the courthouse parking lot just outside the Dodgeville Chronicle office. This year's event will be on October 24th. There will be a specific one-way route that will start on the south side of the courthouse parking lot near the Plymouth Congregational Church. It will take you down and around nearby streets and end on the north side of the courthouse parking lot. Trunks will be socially distanced along the route. Marks are required. Goodies will be handed out by participants with a gloved hand. Prizes will be awarded for: Best Face mask and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd best trunk. The Dodgeville Lions Club has begun its Birthday/Anniversary Calendar Sale. Since the pandemic forced cancellation of three major fundraisers for the group - Fun Night and two Antique/Flea Markets - this may be the club's only fundraiser for the year. The Lions Club gives a lot of money to local and area needs, including the Food Pantry, Food Locker and Feeding Friends. They have built a lot of shelters at parks and provided funds for dugouts at ball fields plus they give out several scholarships to graduating seniors. They also help Boy Scouts with Eagle Projects and donate much more to other needs. If you haven't been contacted by a Dodgeville Lion to buy a calendar, please do so.
