For many years, the Dodgeville Chronicle and the Democrat Tribune have been blessed to have Maxine Tibbits as the Mineral Point correspondent.
There have been many things covered in Mineral Point, and one thing we have always remembered if there was something that we missed, "Maxine most likely took care of it for us," as publisher Pat always says.
She was more than the Mineral Point correspondent, to me she was another grandmother. She filled that for many people.
I knew her since I was a young child, as my older sister was a friend to her granddaughter Torrie.
I had the pleasure to know her throughout many events that my siblings and I had when we were younger. Whenever it was a 4-H event, she was there. Whenever it was a high school FFA event, she was there. Whenever it was a Mineral Point wrestling match, she was there in the front row cheering on her favorite team.
Her baking abilities were like no other. I always looked forward to her delicious desserts, especially her cookies. In fact a few years ago after my gallbladder surgery, she sent me a batch of desserts as a get well gesture.
I always enjoyed getting to see her on Wednesdays when I used to be over at the Democrat, especially the time when I butchered that parallel parking job. That was my fault though, but it was always a good laugh between us.
I always enjoyed being able to read through her correspondent column each week. She always knew what was going on. That's because she knew how to stay in touch. That's one of the most important things that we can do in these troubling times. With the loss I dealt with a couple weeks ago, it really made realize this lesson even more and to not take life for granted.
Thank you Maxine for keeping us informed about Mineral Point, and for simply being you. You will be missed by many people.
