Don't fall for fear card

Dear Editor:
I am sorry to hear about the fear mentioned in a recent Chronicle letter to the editor. I want to respect and acknowledge the writer's fear, but also try to make her understand that it is misplaced. Fear begets fear. Her statements about people being afraid to show Trump signs or state opinions are equally felt on the "other" side. Both Trump and Fox have deliberately set about to instill fear in order to build loyalty to Trump. Don't get sucked in. Yes, there are those who cross the line, with yard signs, at BLM marches, and others, both from the left wing and the right wing. In fact, I have heard in the last several weeks that many, many Biden-Harris signs have been stolen or destroyed. But let's not let lone wolf, despicable acts paint the whole crowd. That goes both ways, and you would not want people to believe that of you. For every conspiracy theory there is an opposing conspiracy theory. Gridlock. How do we get out of this hatefulness of others?
The hate and disrespect the writer shows to Democrats -- millions and millions of people, some of whom are her neighbors, people she has grown up with, and people she deals with every day - - is chilling. It takes my breath away. Really? We want to burn down our own homes? We want to oppress you? We don't want to hear opposing views? We don't want to live in peace? We don't want to fix injustices in this country? Destroy our economy? Think about the motivations of those who want you to believe that. Who benefits?
Don't fall for fear, or for giving away your right to think critically.
