A difference in a year

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

What a difference a year makes.
Last year at this time I was getting ready to head to Milwaukee for the National Newspaper Association's annual convention. The convention is moved state to state and last year it was Wisconsin's turn. Milwaukee did an excellent job as host site and Wisconsin in hosting. It was such a great experience I was hoping to attend this year's convention that was in another state.
But guess what happened....right....COVID-19.
I will be attending the convention along with two other staff members but I won't be leaving town to do it. The convention is virtual this year and even with that arrangement it is still packed with necessary information for our industry.
Someone questioned me last week on the relevancy and believability of newspapers in this day and age. I shook my head and said keep reading as you will find out things in our editions you won't find out anywhere else.
I am sure my belief in our industry will be enhanced this next week as I network with other publications throughout the nation. I am looking forward to it and I must say with most meetings and events being held virtually I am comfortable with the arrangement.
And I won't have to eat banquet food either.
