Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw talked about the meet saying:
The Boscobel Cross Country team hosted a quadrangular meet at the Ryan Zimpel Memorial Course. The meet started with a tribute to Greg Bell who recently passed away from cancer. Greg Bell has been a long time part of the southwest Wisconsin cross country family. He was a coach for many years at Boscobel and then became principal and district administrator. Greg was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by everyone that had the privilege to know him. He played a huge part in so many young people's lives. Gone way too soon at the young age of 51.
"This is a unique and challenging course out in the country near Boscobel. You run through farm fields and woods. Even though it is a tough course our runners stepped up and did a great job.
"Our girls are running in a nice pack, led by Sophomore Julia Thompson with Junior Haylee Kearns and Freshmen Sierra Davenport close behind. These three girls set a nice pace that kept them competitive throughout the race. The first 7 runners for DPCC only had 1 minute 18 second gap. Senior Chloe Oberhuser and Freshmen Grace Wersal were scorers for the team,, doing so well so that our girls team placed first among the four teams. Freshmen Regan Schuette and Senior Brittany Thompson rounded out the varsity squad, pushing the others the entire way. We are so pleased with the mental toughness these girls are showing early in the season. They all ran during the summer and this has helped tremendously. We have 7 girls on the JV team (the meet did not score the JV results) and they are running very well to help the team become better and better.
"We have small numbers but great determination on our boys team. We placed a close second behind Boscobel in the race. Junior Will Aurit won the race and Sophomore Charlie Keith placed second, leading the entire race. These two run relaxed and confident, a pleasure to watch. Sophomore Joey Robinson stepped up nicely this race to place 6th and will only continue to improve. Junior Chandler Williams and Sophomore Mason Winch finished the scoring for the boys varsity with solid racers by both runners. Freshmen Wyatt Scheckel and Thomas Esch are new to cross country this year and are doing well in their first few races of the season. Again no JV team score.
"This week we go to Prairie du Chien on Tuesday, September 22 for a triangular and Friday, September 25 to Fennimore for an invite. Because of Covid, passes are required to attend a cross country meet with masks and social distancing being observed. We are very proud of how hard our cross country runners are working and how they are following the health guidelines set up so we hopefully continue with the season."
