Cardinals go the distance with Benton


The two Six Rivers West volleyball teams went at each other for five sets Thursday before Highland went home with a 3-2 win.
Scores were 26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 25-27, 16-14.
The Cardinals almost ended the match in four sets as they eased to a 15-4 lead before watching the Zephyrs chipped away until they lost the set 27-25.
The fifth and deciding set was almost as close with the Cardinals closing out with the win, 16-14.
The fifth set had its moments too as Benton raced to a 6-0 lead before the Cards battled back and worked their way to the win.
"Our games were evenly matched and very competitive," coach Maria Wineski said. "The girls showed what they are made of and found their way to a W."
Rachel Miller was a force at the net with18 kills, a block and she added a pair of aces.
Myah Hennessey added six kills and served four aces.
Estee Goodwiler came up with 23 assists, nine digs and served five aces.
The second setter in Highland's 6-2, Harper Drury, had 11 assists, six digs and one ace.
Tristin Imhoff also contributed to the win with four aces while Macey Kraisinger added three aces and 24 digs.
Wineski is pleased with how the team is coming together.
"We are learning how to play together and to each other's strengths," she said. "This is a great group of girls to coach and we are thankful for every match we get in."
