To say the offense the Iowa-Grant football coaches put in a few weeks ago is working may just be a bit understated.
How about saying it is dominating? You could say that as the Panthers rolled over the grass at Boscobel for eight touchdowns and a 58-14 win last Friday. Seven of the touchdowns came on the ground which the Panthers got to know pretty well throughout the night with 465 rushing yards on 33 carries.
Reid Lundell scored three times as he ran for 220 yards on 13 carries.
Treyton Starkey added two on a nine for 112 yards carry night.
Zachary Winkler pushed across one with 87 yards on two carries.
Skyler Achenbach carried four times for 27 yards and a score.
Freshman Connor Dowell got in for five carries for 19 yards.
Quarterback Isaac Hill made the most of his one for one completion night with a 44 yard scoring pass to Winkler.
For the night it was 466 yards of offense on 34 plays and eight touchdowns.
Impressive.
Panther coach Zachary Raimer saw it that way tool
Just like previous weeks, the offense has started to click more with more reps and time in practice," the coach said. "The offensive line was able to control the line of scrimmage, which provided great opportunities for our specialists to make plays. We were able to establish a tough running attack with still having a threat through the air. Great performance by the whole offensive unit."
With the score moving to near blowout status Raimer was able to reward his reserves with some time on the field
"We started to work in reserves in the mid-third quarter," Raimer said. "They were excited to get a chance to play under the lights Friday night. It was great practice for them to see some live action."
The match-up with Boscobel completes the regular season for the Panthers but they will wrap up Friday with a bonus game. The Panthers opted out of the playoff system the WIAA put together but picked up one more opponent who also opted out of the post season. Fall River/Rio (1-4) will be the match-up this week.
Getting through the regular season in the year of COVID has been both a challenge and a learning experience for the Panthers.
"Football is a very challenging sport, and then you go and throw COVID in the mix, well that makes for an even more difficult season,"' Raimer said. "I think that this year has taught our players to be resilient and fight through adversity and that nothing is promised. While this was a very difficult season, I am proud of how my players responded and grew throughout the season."
As for the final game of the season: "We do not know much about this team, but we are expecting a tough battle and a good football game to wrap up our season," Raimer said about FR/R.
