The Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce's Annual Trunk or Treat was a big success last Saturday. Due to the pandemic there were only 11 entrants with trunks, but there were over 250 kids who went through the stations. The kids were all smiles filling up their bags and showing off their costumes. The majority of kids went through the first 45 minutes - until about 1:45 p.m. - but there were plenty for the next hour and some stragglers going through even as late as 2:50! A good time was had by all!

Saturday morning's breakfast took Bob, Terry and me on a short trip from the Chronicle office to Cafe By Country Kitchen just on the north side of Dodgeville. We decided to stay closer to home for a change and support very locally! We did have a nice visit with owner Craig Dougherty as he sat and talked with us for awhile. Our journey back to the Chronicle only took us about three of four more miles, so we ended our usual 70 mile excursions, cutting it down to about 10. I was driving and Bob and Terry don't trust my driving that much. They usually give out a WHEEEW when we return home when I drive!

A huge congratulations to a pair of boys cross country runners who will represent their schools at the State Championships the Saturday (Halloween)! Dodgeville-Mineral Point junior Will Aurit qualified in Division 1. This is the first time Dodge-Point has run in Division 1, mainly due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and some of the larger schools not competing this fall. Iowa-Grant senior Nick Connolly qualified in Division 3 and will run Saturday also. Good luck to both of them!

The Dodge-Point United boys soccer team is one game away from going to state due to an exciting "shootout" three overtime win Saturday night. They play Saturday (Halloween) afternoon for the right to go to state. Congratulations and Good Luck to them!

Check elsewhere in this paper for the Halloween hours in your area. Saturday night is supposed to be pleasant, but windy for the little ghosts and goblins to be out. Wind is synonymous with Halloween!

Also Sunday morning starts Daylight Savings Time, so don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour Saturday nigh!

The Dodgeville Lions Club has begun its Birthday/Anniversary Calendar Sale. Since the pandemic forced cancellation of three major fundraisers for the group - Fun Night and two Antique/Flea Markets - this may be the club's only fundraiser for the year. The Lions Club gives a lot of money to local and area needs, including the Food Pantry, Food Locker and Feeding Friends. They have built a lot of shelters at parks and provided funds for dugouts at ball fields plus they give out several scholarships to graduating seniors. They also help Boy Scouts with Eagle Projects and donate much more to other needs. If you haven't been contacted by a Dodgeville Lion to buy a calendar, please do so. There is information on their website.
