Along The Ad Routes

With there being no sports on TV, the stoppage and/or delay of baseball season, golf tournaments, or pretty much anything sports related, I'm almost lost! It's going to get tiresome watching "the best of" sports on TV or replays of games that I have already seen. I feel really sorry for the seniors in high school (especially) and college who won't have the chance to play for a state or national title as all tournaments are cancelled. Spring sports are on hold. Almost every event that will draw a good number of people is cancelled or postponed - at least up through the first week of April. The devastation to the economy is huge. Just for example look at the number of NCAA Men's Basketball game sites that were preparing for an onrush of fans and players just in motels. Then you add in the food people, vendors at the sites and T-shirt and other souvenir sales. WOW!

As of Tuesday the Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce has made the decision to cancel the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships on Saturday, April 25. There could be some 4000 people there, so that was a no brainer!  We will be planning bigger and better things for next year. Stay tuned!

Bob Kratochwill, Terry Carroll, myself and Dave Stone went to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Golf Course in Spring Green for breakfast Saturday. We were all alone as customers when we arrived at 8:00 a.m., but people started filling in soon afterwards. You always get a nice view there looking out over the river and the food is pretty darn good too!

I had a chance to catch up with former Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce Director Lynn (Price) Saturday afternoon/evening. She was on her way to Tennessee when we were able to connect. She has sons in Cross Plains and Platteville. She is planning to be married the end of August and moving to Tennessee!

With the Coronavirus out there and spreading people are urged to take precautions such as avoid large gatherings. That's got to put a damper on weddings, anniversaries and even funerals to some extent. Schools are closed indefinitely.

Some good news is that the former Hardee's in Dodgeville is undergoing renovations to become Jimmy's Diner soon. The exact date isn't out there yet, but soon!

It was a sad day Saturday when the Dodgeville community lost another Icon as Florence Crubaugh passed away. She ran the downtown store of Linen's & Accents for many years and was very active in chamber of commerce and community events. She was married to another Dodgeville Icon who passed in 2005 - Mike Crubaugh, owner of the famed Quality Bakery. They were both special people and good friends!
