Spaghetti Western The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has nothing on the Dodgeville Knights as they were shocked by Blanchardville 17-16 Sunday.
The Good--a sparkling relief performance by Grady Gorgen who dominated the Bullets for five innings and left the mound with the Knights ahead 16-8. Add to that a 26 hit attack that put the Knights up 16 runs in the last frame.
The Bad--eight errors with four coming in the nine run 9th the Bullets put together for a shocker for the Knights and a 17-16 loss. Add in three walks in the fatal inning and that sums the bad up pretty well.
The Ugly--the ninth for the Knights who could not make a play or find a way to stop the bleeding. They were only able to record one out in the last frame before Evan Prust sprinted home with the winning run.
The Bullets stayed the course and came up with 16 hits of their own, five in the final frame. Brooks Chandler, winning pitcher Cole Breuer, Colton Schaeffer, Prust and Carney all had hits in the marathon inning. To make matters worse for the Knights their errors came on what were routine plays.
Carter Ruegsegger went five innings for the Bullets with Lane Busser working three and Breuer coming in to finish.
The Knights got three innings from Braeden Vivian, five from Gorgen and then went with Hunter DeVoss and Justin Baehler in the ninth.
Schraepfer was 5x6 for Blanchardville and Breuer 3x5. Schraepfer, Kyle Kleppe and Sawdey had rbis in the ninth.
Gorgen and Ayden Halverson were 4x6 for the Knights with Jordan Olson 3x4, Baehler, Dylan Timmerman and Jack Hellmann 3x5 with Nate Michek 2x3. Gorgen, Halverson, Trevor Wanek, Michek and Timmerman all had doubles.
The Knights have a tentative game Thursday with Mount Horeb and travel to Shullsburg/Benton Sunday.
