Learning about respect

Dear Editor:
Gregory Erickson, in his long winded attempt to deny the reality of white privilege, betrays his own ignorance of its pervasiveness. To wit, he refers to Dr. Booker T. Washington as "Booker" and Dr. Carson's mother as his (Erickson's) hero: "Sonja". When I was a kid in Chicago our family had a Black cleaning lady that even us kids called "Pearl" instead of "Mrs. Hill. I like to think I've learned a few things in the past 60+ years about respect. I doubt "Greg" would like people who don't know him or his mother to call them anything but "Mrs. Erickson" or him "Mr. Erickson".

BTW, the Vikings knew a thing or two about enslaving my ancestors in Ireland and the British Isles.
