Dear Editor:
Thank you to all 355 Iowa County voters who signed a petition urging the Iowa County Board of Supervisors to support a referendum on the November ballot to end gerrymandering. These signatures were collected in a two-week period and during the pandemic!
Thank you, too, to the Iowa County Board of Supervisors that passed the resolution for a referendum to create a nonpartisan procedure for the preparation of legislative and congressional district plans and maps on a 16-4 vote.
A nonpartisan procedure for drawing voting district maps after the 2020 census is the best way to assure:
• Fair representation for all Wisconsin citizens
• Political candidates chosen by the voters, not party leadership or big donors
• Candidates must seek broad support across their districts, not just support from their base, thus reducing the polarization in our politics
