Cardinal boys fashion split

It wasn't the textbook kind of win but it did put one more in the left hand column for the Highland boys basketball team Tuesday as they outlasted Belmont 47-44.
"Our seniors stepped up and brought this one home," said Highland coach Sean Reuter.
Jaydn Halverson nailed a pair of key three pointers down the stretch and senior classmate Grant Hying hit one. The Cardinals also got a couple two point baskets from Isaac Michek to help in the late run.
"I think that was Grant's first three pointer of the year," said Reuter. "We won it in the last three minutes with some good play by our seniors."
Belmont had to foul the Cardinals six times to get into the bonus but the line was not all that kind. The Cardinals only manage one make in four attempts after they got into bonus.
Belmont had a shot at the buzzer in an attempt to force overtime but it rimmed out.
"We didn't shoot all that well for the game but we hit them when we needed to down the stretch," said Reuter.
Michek led Highland with 12 points with Halverson adding 11.

In another game this past week the battled Shullsburg but came out on the short end of a 68-58 score.
Max Oleson had an 18 point outing to lead the Cardinals. His total included a pair of three pointers and six of six free throws.
"Max had a good night," Reuter said.
But it wasn't enough to make up for a game where the Cardinals seem out of sync.
"We didn't rebound well and we had too many turnovers," Reuter said. "We were off with our play."
