SWAL Eagles trip SRE Eagles in holiday tourney

Barneveld's girls basketball team tested the waters in the SWAL in their holiday tournament and even though both ended up in the loss column the girls got a dose of learning.
The opening game for the Golden Eagles was against the Golden Eagles as both Barneveld and SWAL member Fennimore share the same nickname. The Barneveld Eagles got to see first hand the talents of junior Brynlee Nelson as she poured in 18 points, 14 the second half when the Fennimore Eagles led by as many as 28 points. Nelson received scoring support from Clare Faulkner who added 11.
The Barneveld Eagles took a gut check and went on a 20-8 run to trim Fennimore's advantage to 14 but could get no closer in the 54-39 loss.
Barneveld hung close the first 18 minutes and trailed 21-16 at the break. Jacey Spring scored all six of her points the first half and Claire Brindley netted all four of hers. A three pointer and a two pointer from freshman Elle Pechan along with a free throw by Rowan Vinger completed the first half total for Barneveld.
Fennimore made the Barneveld defense scramble as they shot 47% for the game.
Barneveld was led by Leah Marx With eight points and seven rebounds.
Barneveld then played another SWAL member, Mineral Point, in the tourney final. See that result in another story.
