Sauk wins inside game over Dodger boys

Going against a team with a star player who is 6-7 with four years of experience is bad enough but add in another one the same height and it makes it even tougher.
The Dodgeville boys basketball team had to contend with the two towers Saturday afternoon at Sauk Prairie and the duo combined for 40 points and altered several shots. Senior Trevor Spray poured in 25 points and junior Brandt Wilson 15 to lead the Silver Eagles to a 73-54 win over the Dodgers in the non-conference match-up.
The duo helped the Eagles to a 37-11 halftime lead with both their shooting and their defense. Spray led the scoring in the first 18 minutes with 14 points and Wilson netted 11.
Parker Breunig, a 6-2 junior guard, also had double figures for the Eagles with 11.
"Sauk's defensive intensity and overall length presented a problem for us in the first half," said Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw. "Everything was tough offensively early on and when we did get an open shot we rushed it. Sauk came ready to play."
With the size inside the Dodgers finally got their perimeter shots to drop which suited senior Peyton Tranel nicely. Tranel led all scorers with 26 points, 24 of them the second half. Six of his nine baskets for the game were three pointers.
"Our second half was much better led by Peyton," McGraw said. "The looks came more naturally in the second half. Scoring 43 points after an 11 point first half was promising. Our guys kept fighting."
But while it was an exciting last 18 minutes the overall performance was not up to McGraw's expectations.
"I would like to see us better on the defensive end," McGraw said. "We can be better than we were today."
