Pointers stay with Falcons in three point loss

The rehabilitation of 6-4 senior guard and UNLV recruit Isaac Lindsey continued at the WBY shootout at Concordia University Friday.
Lindsey contributed 15 points to the 55 the Pointers totaled with three baskets on both sides of the arc. While the Pointers shot well, Brown Deer shot better and claimed a 58-55 win in the non-conference game played as part of the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook shootout.
"Isaac was able to play a few more minutes today and obviously will help us moving forward," said coach Dan Burreson. "At this point he just needs more repetitions."
Lindsey has been sidelined much of the season with a groin injury sustained during the football season.
Lindsey joined sophomore Joah Filardo and senior Blaise Watters in double figure scoring. Filardo led with 17 and Watters added 10.
"It was a good weekend for Joah," Burreson said, adding the sophomore has played well all season.
Armani Jones led Brown Deer with 21 points and Jarton Davis added 12.
The game was a three point shootout contest that Brown Deer finished with one more trey than the Pointers. Brown Deer hit 10, five by Jones, while the Pointers finished with nine led by Filardo's four and Lindsey's three.
Filardo had 15 of his 17 the first half to led the Pointers to a 31-27 halftime advantage. Brown Deer watched him closely the second half, limiting him to a pair of free throws.
The Falcons went on an early run and outscored the Pointers 32-24 the second half. Jones had 12 and Davis nine of their total in the final 18 minutes.
"We took some steps forward against two quality teams in this tournament," Burreson said. "We battled hard against Brown Deer but fell a little short."
Burreson said the team has shown progress defensively.
Offensively the Pointers are getting contributions which pleases Burreson.
"We are getting good production from Blaise Watters and we had strong performances this weekend from Grant Bossert and Cameron Wiegman. We also got more scoring from Liam Stumpf today."
