Pointers pull away from Eagles with free throws

After taking an 18 point lead Mineral Point watched Fennimore's Brynlee Nelson lead her team to within four in the second half of a SWAL battle Thursday.
But four was the closest the Golden Eagles could manage as the Pointers took care of the basketball and made their free throws at the end to knock off Fennimore 59-45.
Nelson led the Golden Eagles with 19 points and Alexis Adkins added 11.
But the Pointers had more than an answer with Nicole Johnson who netted 19 points and hauled in 18 rebounds. They also got help from Mallory Lindsey who scored 12 and also had a pair of 10 point efforts from Macey Aschliman and Ella Chambers.
"Nicole made nine free throws when we needed them and her board work was outstanding," said Pointer coach Mike Keyes. "We also got good outings from Mallory and Ella. Both were very solid."
The Pointers, who gained the Division 4 rankings at WSN this week, hosts Southwestern tonight and travel to Darlington for a make-up game Saturday.
