After a tough match last week, Dodgeville Wrestling fell to Belmont Platteville by a score of 46-30.
"We had a really good practice and all, and I know that we have had some injuries throughout the season," head coach Ryan Lord said. "The bottom line is we just didn't show up."
Despite that, the Dodgers had a few winners that night. The first win came from 106 pounder Caden Zumbrunnen in his match against Navaeh Koch by a fall of 34 seconds. Mason Winch, at 126 pounds, was able to add six points to the scoreboard by receiving a forfeit for the Dodgers.
Dodger Riley Crook had a strong match against Payton Nielsen, at 160 pounds, and won by a fall of 59 seconds. Dodgers that also added six points to the scoreboard were Jacoby Dressler (182), and Jacob Hlavac (195).
The Dodgers then travelled to the 15 team Hustisford Invitational. They were able to get their confidence back from the Belmont-Platteville match with a 5th place finish.
"Although a 5th place finish may not look that impressive on paper, we didn't have six of our regulars in the line-up," Lord said. "I'm not sure we would have had enough to overtake Hartford, but I think we definitely could have made it an interesting race for the team title had everyone been in the line-up."
Riley Crook led the Dodgers as a tournament champion at 106 pounds.
"Riley Crook led the way as a tournament champion," Lord said. "Riley had a great day and looked dominant throughout the tournament."
Drew Palmer (132) and Jack Dougherty (145) also had successful days and each finished in 3rd place.
"Drew has been out of the line-up since early January, so it's great to see him back and having success," Lord said. "Jack has shown flashes of potential throughout the year and he looked great on Saturday. He defeated two wrestlers with pretty impressive records on his way to his third place finish."
Austin Phelan (138), Brighton Judd (220) and Louden Fuerstenberg (285) each placed 4th, while Tristan Jones (113) and Jacob Hlavac (195) each placed 6th. The Dodgers will next compete in The SWAL/SWC Clash at Mineral Point High School on Saturday.
