The Dodgeville girls basketball team was a little too generous at Darlington Monday and suffered a 60-54 non-conference loss to the Lady Redbirds.
But the sting of the loss was eased when junior Olivia Argall picked up her 1000th point in the first few minutes of the game and joined four others in that elite club.
Argall displayed her skill by scoring the first 15 points of the game with the 15th the magic number for admittance to elite group. She joins, Hannah Jones, Taylor Stanek, Rachel Pope and Heidi Meudt in the 1000 point club.
Argall finished the game with 25 points.
"It is always exciting to see someone get that 1000 point mark," said Dodgeville coach Josh Busch. "She did it by taking what was there. We did not run anything special for her. She is very good at creating her shot without any help. It all came naturally."
Argall will be honored Thursday before her home crowd and there will be a reception following the game with River Valley. The game at Darlington was halted for a few minutes and her feat was acknowledged when it took place.
For the game the Dodgers got off to a strong start but stopped making shots and controlling the basketball. They gave up a 14 point lead when the Redbirds went on a 14-2 run to grab the lead at 27-26.
"We let them off the hook," Busch said. "This will haunt us for a little while."
"On the bright side it was nice to see so many fans following us and being there to see Oliva reach 1000," Busch said. "There were a lot of t-shirts and signs for the event."
Besides the match-up Thursday with River Valley the Dodgers will also have a SWC battle with Prairie du Chien in an away game Saturday. The JV will play at 5:30 with the varsity to follow.

PLATTEVILLE GAME
Sami Martin and Josie Nies have been causing problems for teams playing the Platteville girls basketball teams for the past four seasons.
Friday night was more of the same as Martin struck for 19 points and Nies 18 in a 57-33 win over Dodgeville in a key SWC game.
The Dodgers and Prairie du Chien have been on Platteville's heels all season but the Lady Hillmen, ranked first in Division 3, have been untouchable so far and remain undefeated.
The Dodgers got a pair of 10 point performances from their junior scorers, JoJo Heimerl and Olivia Argall.
"We knew it would be tough going in," said Dodgeville coach Josh Busch. "I thought we could compete and we did with our defense but our offense was not there."
For the Dodgers it was a night of the old lid on the basket problem as shots did not fall.
"We had good looks but the ball would not go in," Busch said. "Some of that was due to us not finishing at the rim."
Busch felt the defense did what it was designed to do.
"They did not have an easy time of it," Busch said. "We made them earn everything they got."
"Platteville is a good team and deserve their top ranking," Busch added. "But we battled them and competed all night."
