How can you tell if someone is a hero?
A good way is to take a look at what that person has gone through in their life and when those things are not positive and that person keeps on fighting, that is a hero.
That is Kathy Honerbaum.
Kathy lost her husband and the father of their four children to an unexpected death in 2005. She has continued as a single mother ever since.
Last year she lost her youngest daughter, Erin, to breast cancer. During the process of supporting Erin through her illness, Kathy was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer too.
She had to make many life changes to qualify for the drugs she needed and even took on Pfizer, the leading drug manufacturer in America.
And she won.
She won not only for herself but for others facing the same problems. For her efforts and to tell her story to US Congress she was a guest of House Representative Mark Pocan for Tuesday's State of the Union address by President Trump.
Kathy has been use to helping others as she spent 50 years as a nurse. What she has meant in that capacity to many already qualified her as a hero prior to taking on the high costs of prescription drugs.
I wish there was something profound I could say about her many acts of heroism and maybe I will think of something. In the meantime I want ot say Thank You Kathy, you are my hero.
