MPHS play showed lots of talent

Dear Editor:
Last month I saw, probably, the most courageous play ever commissioned at our MP Opera House (and I've witnessed many) as the Mineral Point High School performed "Les Miserables". Not only were the parts exquisitely cast, but professionally portayed. Every part, every student during every scene, was so convincing. The emotion and attention to detail was so impressive, to say the least. We have always had an abundance of talented female voices, and this production showcased them all. I also have to make mention, not only of the talent, but the number of wonderful male voices. I wish I'd gone again, it was that good.
Of course, a prodution like this is only as good as the talented directors and teachers that took it on. Special recognition to the following teachers and helpers: Ashley McHugh (music teacher and musical director), English teacher Jason Smith (acting director), Jeff David (music teacher and sound director), Bill Duwell (set director), Lisa Duwell and Cindy Monroe (costume directors), and a very special mention to the one who has been here the longest, Matt Nevers. His connections with the Lancaster, Platteville, and Mineral Point City bands made it possible to assemble (and direct) the most talented pit crew we have ever had.
I certainly speak for any one who saw this production when I say; Thank you, Mineral Point music students and teachers, for having the vision and talent to perform this unforgetable musical.
There is more to High School than athletics.
