Pointer boys put the clamps on Belmont

Mineral Point's boys basketball team waited until midway through the first half to kick it up a notch and when they did there was no stopping them as they rolled over Belmont 68-17 Monday,
The non-conference game was an add-on for both teams and was a plus in the year of the COVID.
"Getting a chance to play is the main thing," said Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson.
Joah Filardo continued his assault on 20 point or better scoring as he hit that mark for the third straight game. He had 12 the first half and Liam Stumpf had seven to help the Pointers to a 37-12 halftime lead.
The rotations Burreson used the second half to make sure everyone got some court time helped the Pointers hold the Braves to five second half points.
Stumpf added nine points to the Pointer attack with Ian Keyes and Dominik McVay both netted eight.
It was pretty good team basketball tonight," said Burreson after the game. "Everybody defended, nine guys rebounded, 10 guys scored and we had assists from 11 different guys. We had a really good mindset tonight. We did a nice job of finding the open man and did not give them a lot of easy looks."
Burreson was pleased with some of the individual performances that helped key the win.
"It was another big night on the boards by Liam Stumpf who had 12 rebounds. Also, another solid game by Joah Filardo with 20 points. I thought Ian Keyes had his best overall game of the year. Dominik McVay had some nice assists," Burreson said.
There were also key contributions from the reserves.
"We got really good minutes off of the bench from Bodie Bossert, Tanner Goninen, and Bryce Acherman," Burreson said. "Tanner had five steals tonight."
