So far the toughest battle for the Dodgeville wrestling program has been numbers.
One more wrestler decided the shortened season was not working for him and elected to work in his free time instead.
"You have to respect that," said coach Ryan Lord.
"We are a family when you come right down to it and we are becoming a close knit group so it hurts when you lose one of the us," Lord said. "We support each other every day and we have great kids. I respect them for showing up to work every day at getting better."
The Dodgers lost a SWC match to Richland Center Tuesday 30-27 which was wrestled at 1 pm to beat the predicted storm. The only had two matches for the day as the rest of their points came via forfeits.
Freshman Charlie Meudt came up with a win via pin at 106 when he disposed of Emma Hady in :38.
"Charlie is fun to watch," Lord said. "He really gets after it."
Drew Palmer got the other win at 126 when he got past Trevyn Thielmann with a 7-5 decision.
"Drew has been battling the flu bug but he stuck with it and toughed it out," Lord said.
Thomas Lundell picked up a forfeit win at 132, Mason Winch received a forfeit at 138 and Louden Fuerstenberg was awarded one at 285.
The Hornets got forfeits at 145, 152, 182, 195 and 220.
There were double forfeits at 113, 120, 160 and 170.
Lundell, Winch and Sean Jones all got exhibition matches. Lord was impressed with Jones who has not wrestled since fifth grade.
The coach also said the WIAA has announced competition may now include other schools than just duals.
