Cardinals cruise on Senior Night with win over Cassville

Senior Night and home cooking gave the Highland boys basketball team a boost as they ran past Cassville 57-41 Thursday.
Isaac Michek took advantage of the friendly confines of the Cardinal gym and drilled four three pointers among his seven buckets for a team leading 18 points.
"Michek hitting 4 threes was a huge lift," said coach Shaun Reuter. The senior guard had 13 of his points the first half
Senior Justin Miller added 12 points and played lockdown defense on Cassville's leading scorer Bobby Roe. Roe scored the first eight points of the game before Miller took over and held him scoreless the rest of the half. Roe ended up with 16 but several came when Miller was taking a break.
"Miller was a pest to Roe even though he ended up with 16 points," Reuter said. "Justin shut him down pretty good."
Another senior, Simon McCarthy vacated the bench and also found the range from three point land.
"I was really happy that Simon McCarthy drilled a three late in the game on senior night," added Reuter.
The Cardinals sprinted to a 28-17 halftime lead and kept up the barrage the second half for the win.
"We rebounded the ball much better and out rebounded them, which was good to see after the Benton game," said Reuter.
"We did a good job of taking care of the ball with only 10 turnovers and as a team we shot a lot better, which we should at home," said Reuter. "We got to the free throw line a little bit more, but would like to see more attempts."
Reuter was pleased with the emergence of a solid point guard in Justin Miller.
"So far Miller has done a great job of taking over at the point averaging nine points, almost seven rebounds, and five assists per game while only having four turnovers in three games. Michek has stepped up this season with his three point shooting and is averaging 15 points per game. Max Oleson is also averaging 15 points per game so far this season while always being guarded by their best defender," Reuter said.
"Also Brody Smith came off of the bench and knocked down a pair of threes and scored eight points all in the first half," Reuter said.
