New Panthers fall short to start new season

The new chapter in the world of Iowa-Grant girls basketball got its opening statements written Friday.
The statements are being authored by Melissa Martinez and Jason Schulting, both former head coaches who have returned to guide the Panthers during their COVID-19 2020-2021 season.
Friday the "New Panthers" got their first taste of playing together after working through some early COVID-19 issues. While the Panthers did not get a win they got to play and get their season started.
Southwestern grabbed a 10 point halftime lead at 24-14. Both teams picked up the pace the second half with the Wildcats handing the Panthers 65-37.
The Panthers found a scorer in sophomore Olivia Searles who put in 23 points.
Southwestern was led by Hannah Lucey with 17, Malory Kaiser with 14 and Alisa Ramaker with 10.
"The effort from the girls was tremendous," said coach Martinez. "This group enters the year with very little game experience but they are coachable and willing to continue to get better the more court time experience the girls obtain."
The junior varsity was able to earn a win against the junior Wildcats.
