I wrote too soon

Dear Editor:
Two weeks ago I wrote a letter published in the Chronicle chiding President Trump for his attacks on American institutions he says we can no longer trust. I wrote too soon.
First, he said don't trust the FBI. Then he added the CIA, followed by the State Department, the major media (sorry Fox News), and then medical science.
Now he says we can't trust the election results: they'll be rigged by people voting by mail from the comfort and safety of their own homes. People like you and me.
Sixty-six years ago during the Army-McCarthy hearings, a very brave lawyer named Joseph Welch stopped another full-of-himself despot named Senator Joseph McCarthy with, "Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? No sense of decency?"
