Along The Ad Routes

I guess chivalry has also become a victim of the Coronavirus Pandemic! The other day I held a door open at a store downtown for a woman. There was another woman coming in right after her. That other woman, however, had her facepiece on and refused to enter as long as I was holding the door. The reason I was holding the door was so that she would not have to touch it in any way, keeping her away from other people's possible germs that had been in contact with it. That could be classified as two fold chivalry!

To mask or not to mask .... that is the question. Since it has been ordered for all of Wisconsin to wear masks when out in the public, I have seen a few people in the stores without masks and I have had a few people rebel and tell me they just aren't going out if the have to wear a mask. The masking order was done for a reason - to try and keep us as safe as possible from COVID-19. I don't have a problem wearing a mask when I'm going to a store, but if I am alone in my vehicle I don't think I need to wear one, or if I'm social distancing from my co-workers at the office either. We're well over six feet apart. When we get up and move around at the office, then I feel we should have a mask on. Also, when I'm outside and not in close contact with people I don't see the need either. I did keep one around my neck at the concession stand when I was alone and put it up to cover my nose and mouth when I had customers.

I feel bad that the DASFI Golf Outing had to be cancelled this year. I always look forward to seeing the players, many who are former graduates of Dodgeville High School. It's a great time to catch up with "old" friends and even meet some new ones. I hope many of the DASFI supporters will send in a donation as the foundation needs financial support to give out the over $40,000 in scholarships each year!

The Iowa County Fair is still a go for the weekend before Labor Day. The exhibitors will be showing and selling their animals, but most other usual attractions will not be present. The Fair Board still has some kinks to work out before the absolute final plans are out there!

I had a chance to peek into the former Corner Drug Store building that is right next door to us. Work on the upstairs is done and the downstairs is coming along. There isn't a firm opening date for "Catherine's Market" that will be located there, but it's getting closer!

Oh, and there still are plans to keep the "Old Fashioned" soda fountain operating!

If you get a chance check out our area's farm markets. Dodgeville, Mineral Point and Spring Green holds their on Saturday mornings while Ridgeway has theirs on Sunday. The one at the old school in Highland (Historical Society) opened up a week or so ago too on Saturdays!
