Pointers fall to Cubans in three sets

Even though Mineral Point gave them a challenge the Cuba City volleyball team was able to fashion a sweep and hold on to first place in the SWAL.
The Cubans took all three sets 25-12, 25-23 and 25-19.
"We were up five in the second set until .19," said Mineral Point coach Sam Riedel. "Then things took a turn for them."
The third set was also close until the Cubans won by six.
"We couldn't put anything together and only were able to serve one ace," the coach said.
That came from Nicole Johnson who also led in kills with Lauren James with seven and blocks with James with one each.
Also for the Pointers Mallory Lindsey dished out 21 assists and Ella Chambers along with Lauren James both came up with 15 digs.
The Pointers are now 2-3 in SWAL play and 11-13-1 overall.
"We are looking forward to playing Cuba City again, this time at home in October," the Pointer coach said.
The Pointers host Iowa-Grant Thursday.
