Moved by youngster's reaction

Dear Editor:
Anybody in need of a "Good News" story? It was around 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, the 23rd of September. As I looked out my front window, I saw seven or eight teenage boys, all in black, go down the street toward the park. I wondered why they were out so late on a school night.
Two of them ran around the side of my house to the back. It was then I called the non-emergency police number. The officer was calm and so quick to get here, not to mention, so wise.
He suggested with Homecoming in a few days, they might be out "decorating" trees."Of course", I agreed.
As the officer and I were talking on the porch with the light on, we noticed four of the boys walking up the driveway!
One by one and over and over again, they kept saying, "I'm sorry we scared you! We didn't mean to scare you. We're sorry." They apologized to the officer too.
It was so moving to hear these young boys care about another's fears and accept responsibility. I told them I was proud of them! They have me hope for the future in Dodgeville and the world. They back to face their choices. It was a deeply moving and uplifting encounter for all of us - the boys, the officer, and me.
