I had a great experience last week when I was inducted into the Dodgeville High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a contributor. I got to ride in a convertible in the parade Thursday evening. It had rained pretty much all day, but was a beautiful evening. I guess that's because I said "don't rain on my parade!" There was a huge receptive crowd out for the parade - something I usually don't get to see as I'm taking photos! My driver was Kevin Williams - thanks for not throwing me off! It was fun to watch the skits and games the kids played at the pep rally. I even got a chance to say a few words to the kids - and they were quiet when I talked! At halftime of the game the group of inductees was introduced and then there was the reception at the Dodger Bowl following the game that was well attended. It was a fun time talking with a lot of people especially Ralph Temby, who was inducted in 2013 and graduated in 1948!

Inducted with me (I should really say I was inducted with them) were some people who were "actually" athletes - Dick Adams, Diane Rohowetz, Jeff Bradley and the 1993 Boys Basketball Team. Present from that team were: Brett and Brad Borne, Rob Meudt, Mark Aurit, Aaron Olson, Kevin Borcherding, Eric Bradley and coaches Cuck Tank and Scott Hawkinson. Karl Clough and Curt Hanson didn't make it back.

A highlight of my induction was saying that I began writing sports for the Chronicle when Dick Adams was a senior (1959) and I covered the rest of the inductees with photos too! Also, with me writing in 1963 when brother Pat was a captain of the 1963 State Basketball runner-up team, along with the fact that I covered nephews Darren Reilly and Ryan Reilly (football and baseball) and nieces Shelly (cheerleading) Kelly and Amy (state volleyball), with their kids Danielle Roh (dance and track), Emma Berg (gymnastics), Grant Roh (football and baseball) and Sean Reilly (football only a freshman) I have covered 3 Generations of Reillys!

There's still time to sign up to sponsor and take part or buy a ticket to sample. Friday, October 18 is the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce sponsored "Off the Vine." This is a Wine Walk that leads you to a group of businesses throughout downtown Dodgeville. Businesses are currently being signed up for the event and tickets are on sale at the chamber of commerce building. To be a part of it, contact the chamber at 935-9200. This is always a "fun" event!

The annual Cornish Festival is this weekend in Mineral Point. There's a lot going on for the entire family. It happens throughout the city and begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. The Cornish were the people who basically settled this area!

Again the "Fall Ball" baseball games were under water last Sunday at both Centennial Park and the High School Field (middle school) here. And guess what? The long range forecast for next weekend is for showers and thunderstorms for Saturday and into Sunday! But it is scheduled to "play ball" as of now!
