A highly emotional issue

Dear Editor
The Driftless Area Land Conservancy (DALC) is deeply grateful for the support Iowa County has demonstrated in opposition to the Cardinal-Hickory Creek (CHC) high capacity transmission line project. Our conservancy agrees with the conclusions of many expert witnesses and the modeling of likely future scenarios by the Public Service Commission's (PSC) own staff. Both the experts and the models demonstrate the lack of compelling evidence that this project serves the public's best interest.
Now that the final written approval has been granted there are very legitimate reasons to appeal this decision as often happens in these circumstances. The cost of an appeal for Iowa County would not be significant. We ask the board to approve an appeal in support of the facts and the wishes of the majority of Iowa County residents.
We understand that consideration of appealing the PSC's decision will once again be on the Iowa County Board meeting agenda - Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7:00pm, Iowa County Health and Human Services Center, 303 W. Chapel St., Dodgeville. We encourage county residents to attend this meeting. Clearly, this is a highly emotional issue for many people. Nevertheless, we urge everyone to treat our hard-working supervisors and the decision-making process with respect and dignity.
Driftless Area Land Conservancy will have knowledgeable individuals present and available to answer questions board members may have. DALC has a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) fact sheet concerning the appeal process, likely costs, and county options. These are available to interested folks. Call (608) 930 - 3252 or email Charles@DriftlessConservancy.org
Driftless Area Land Conservancy appreciates and thanks the Iowa County Board for its support of our mission to maintain and enhance the health, diversity and beauty of Southwest Wisconsin's natural and agricultural landscape.
Best regards,
Driftless Area Land Conservancy
DODGEVILLE
