Pointers sharpen hitting skills in win over Redbirds

Darlington's softball players should have gotten to know the Pointers pretty well in their 18-5 loss Tuesday in a SWAL game.
They sure saw enough of them running around the bases when the Pointers put up a 10 spot.
Fourteen Pointers took turns at bat in the frame. A double by Miranda Oellerich, her fourth straight hit of the day, was one of the big blows in the frame. Morgan James, Lauren James, Jenna Wedig and Dana Schmitz all got hits in the big inning with Schmitz rapping out a pair of singles.
The outburst changed a rather tied 8-5 game into an 18-5 route.
Oellerich had the hot stick with a 4x4 day which included two doubles and three rbis. Ivy Lawinger pitched the win and also did her share at the plate with a pair of doubles in three trips while also driving in three runs.
Morgan James had a 2x5 day and plated three runs. The magic number of three also was used by Jenna Wedig who was 1x4 with three rbis.
Schmitz drove in two runs and was 3x5 at the plate. Madaline Williams was 1x4 with a run batted in while Lauren James and Kyla Lindsey both had singles. The Pointers totaled 16 hits in the route and no one struck out.
Lawinger went the distance with a five hitter. She gave up five runs but only one was earned. She struck out three and walked one.
